Junior Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus women's basketball team has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team for Division III District 2. Carrero is now a finalist for Academic All-America honors as well.

Carrero, who has a 3.84 GPA and is majoring in criminal justice, is the first Albertus Magnus women's basketball player to earn this significant honor.

Carrero currently leads the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in points per game with a 23.1 average.  The junior has led the Falcons in points per game each season during her entire career. This season, she has scored a team-best 416 points, while recorded 66 assists, another team-high.

On Saturday, Jan. 5, Carrero scored her 1,000th career-point at the Net's Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. in a win versus St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn).  She is the 10th player in program history to reach that milestone.

Carrero also scored 46 points in the Falcons 75-73 win over Norwich on Jan. 26, 2013.

Carrero's 46-point effort marks the most points scored in a single game for an Albertus Magnus women's basketball player since Denise Brace scored 40 points on Dec. 29, 1996. Carrero is now fourth in the GNAC with her 46 points in a single game as Stacy Manfredi from Saint Joseph (Conn.) scored 54 points on Feb. 21, 1998.

Carrero is also the first GNAC player to score over 40 points in a single game since Therline Dumeran from Pine Manor registered 41 points on Nov. 17, 2011.
