Albertus Falls to Top-Seeded Castleton 63-47 in ECACs

Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) scored 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds as the Albertus Magnus women's basketball team fell to top-seeded Castleton State 63-47 in the ECAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday night.

The Falcons finish the year with a 20-8 overall record and produced their best season since 1994-95.

In tonight's match-up, Albertus shot just 24.1% from the floor on the night after being held to a 17.9% showing in the second half. Castleton (27-2) shot just 28.6% in the second half to cap off poor shooting in the second 20 minutes of play. The Spartans also scored 23 points off 19 Albertus turnovers.

Carrero finished the night 5-of-16 from the field, while senior Kendrea Walker (New Haven, Conn.) added 10 points, eight rebounds and three blocked-shots. Annie Raucci (Milford, Conn.) chipped in with seven points, six rebounds, and two blocks. Lindsey Raynor (Branford, Conn.) pulled down one rebound in 10 minutes of work for the Falcons in her final collegiate contest.

The Spartans opened the game by scoring the first 11 points of the contest within a span of four minutes before the Falcons got on the board. The two teams traded baskets over the next 10 minutes before the Spartans extended their lead to 14 with five minutes to go in the half.

At the break, the Falcons trailed 40-24 led by 11 points from Carrero.

The second half saw both teams shoot poorly from all over the court as the Falcons hit just 15 of their 21 attempts from the free-throw line.

Castleton led by as much as 26 points with 7:36 left in the contest. Albertus never led in tonight's match-up.

The Spartans were led by Stephanie Linder with 15 points and 11 boards for her first career double-double, while Alyssa Leonard tallied 14 points and eight rebounds.
