Falcons Drop 89-65 Decision at Wesleyan

The Albertus Magnus women's basketball team fell to Wesleyan University 89-65 in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon. 

Wesleyan shot 53.7% from the floor in the opening half, while the Falcons shot just 29.6% as the Cardinals jumped out to a 57-32 lead at the break.

The Cardinals held an early 12-4 lead before Albertus battled back to cut the lead to four at 20-16. The Falcons were just 1-of-4 from behind the arc in the half and hit 15 of their 22 free-throw attempts in the frame.

Wesleyan began the second half with an 11-0 run to take a 68-32 lead.  Wesleyan then took its largest lead of the contest at 39 with 10:30 left in the game before Albertus put together its own 18-2 run to get back into the game but it wasn't enough as Wesleyan cruised to the non-league victory.

Wesleyan improved to 5-0 with the win, while the Falcons fell to 1-2 overall.

Dreisen Heath scored 20 points for the Cardinals, while Kaylie Williams tallied 12 points and eight rebounds. Wesleyan kept Albertus senior Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) in check as she scored 16 points after entering the game averaging 33.5 points per contest.  Carrero had 14 of the Falcons' 32 points in the opening half.

The Falcons were led by Lindsay Karle (Wallingford, Conn.) with 18 points as she tallied 19 points on Saturday to finish the weekend with 37. Karle shot 4-of-18 from the floor in today's game.

Sophomore Chelsea Sherrod (Bridgeport, Conn.) finished the contest with 11 boards, while Wesleyan out-rebounded the Falcons 56-31 on the afternoon.

Wesleyan is now 8-2 all-time vs. Albertus.

The Falcons return to action on Monday, Dec. 2 with a non-conference match-up at Pine Manor College. That contest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
