Despite 37 points from senior Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus women's basketball team dropped an 83-68 decision to Drew University on Wednesday night in non-conference action in New Haven.

Drew shot 51.5% from the field in the opening half, including a 40% clip from behind the arc, to take a 20-point lead at the halftime break.

In the opening frame, the Rangers opened the contest with a 5-0 run before Falcons battled back into the game.  After tying the score at 13, Drew put together a 15-1 run to take a 28-14 lead with seven minutes to go in the frame.  The Rangers added to that tally with a 13-2 run in a span of three minutes to take a 43-22 lead with a minute left in the half.

Less than a minute into the second half, the Rangers took their largest lead of the game of 22 points with their first bucket of the frame.

Trailing 57-37, the Falcons put together a 14-0 run thanks to 10 points from Carrero to cut the Drew lead to 57-51 by Breana Wilson answered with a three-pointer to extend the Rangers' lead to nine. Carrero also scored the Falcons' first 10 points of the game.

The Falcons were able to cut the Drew lead to seven at 62-55 with 6:32 left on the clock thanks to an Annie Raucci (Milford, Conn.) lay-up, but back-to-back three pointers by Drew's Hannah Miller secured the eventual victory for the Rangers.

Carrero shot 14-of-31 from the field and hit four of her eight attempts from behind the arc as she finished with a season-high 37 points.

Raucci added eight points and nine rebounds, while Lindsay Karle (Wallingford, Conn.), who was honored before the game after scoring her 1,000th career point on Monday night, finished the contest with 18 points on 6-of-15 shooting. Chelsea Sherrod (Bridgeport, Conn.) added a team-high 10 rebounds for the Falcons.

Drew was led by 22 points from Miller and 20 points and seven rebounds from Wilson.  Courtney Stephens added 11 rebounds and eight points, while Erin Howard came off the bench to lead all players with 13 rebounds to go along with 18 points.

The Falcons scored 21 points off of 22 Drew miscues but the Rangers out-rebounded the Falcons by a commanding 47-28 on the night.
