Despite 19 points from senior Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus women's basketball team fell to Skidmore College 54-48 as the Thoroughbreds won the Salem State Holiday Tournament with the victory.  Carrero was named to the All-Tournament Team after scoring 44 points in two games.

With the loss, the Falcons fall to 3-7 on the year, while the win improves Skidmore's record to 5-4.  Angela Botiba was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player as she tallied nine points, 17 rebounds and five blocked shots in tonight's contest.

Carrero led the Falcons in the first half, scoring 12 of her 19 points.  The Falcons opened the game 5-2 thanks to a three-pointer by the Albertus senior.

Skidmore put together an early 11-0 run in the opening frame to take a 20-11 lead midway through the half.  The Falcons answered with a 16-1 run capped by an Annie Raucci (Milford, Conn.) jumper to give Albertus a 27-21 advantage. Stellar shooting by Skidmore to finish the frame sent the teams into the locker room at the break tied at 31 apiece.

Play went back-and-forth in the second half before Jordyn Watts' converted on an "and-one" opportunity with just 39 seconds on the clock to give Skidmore a 50-47 lead.  Albertus had one final attempt to tie the game but Carrero's three-point shot attempt missed as the Thoroughbreds held on for the victory.

Raucci finished the contest with seven points and 11 rebounds, while Kelsey Proctor (Guilford, Conn.) added 11 rebounds as well. The Falcons shot just 25.4% from the floor on the night, while Skidmore out rebounded the Falcons 51-46.

Carrero now has 1,515 career points as she is 61 points away from tying the Albertus Magnus women's basketball all-time scoring record of 1,576 points held by Albertus Hall of Famer Natalia Perlaza '05.

Albertus returns to its home court on Saturday, Jan. 4 when the Falcons host Conn College in a 1:00 p.m. non-conference match-up.
