Conn College Hands Falcons 87-71 Loss

Connecticut College defeated the Albertus Magnus women's basketball team 87-71 led by 27 points and 22 rebounds from Tara Gabelman. Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) led the Falcons with 32 points.

The loss moves the Falcons to 3-8 on the year, while the Camels improve to 7-5 overall.

Carrero finished the contest 11-of-25 from the floor in 36 minutes of work.  She now has 1,547 career points as she is 29 points away from tying the Albertus Magnus women's basketball all-time scoring record of 1,576 points held by Albertus Hall of Famer Natalia Perlaza '05.  Carrero is also 10 points away from the second-most all-time tally of 1,557 held by Liz Lacroix '95.

The Falcons opened the contest with an 8-3 run before the Camels bounced back to tie the score at eight. After the Falcons took a 21-20 lead on a Carrero jumper, the Camels used a run to take a 30-23 lead.

Conn College largest lead of the of the contest came in the first half with 37 seconds on the clock as they held a 16-point advantage going into the halftime break.

At the half, Carrero led all scorers with 14, while the Camels held a 31-14 advantage in rebounds.

The Camels were led at the half by eight points and 14 rebounds from Gabelman. Connecticut College shot 46.2% from the field, while the Falcons shot 32.3%.

In the second half, the Falcons battled back and cut the Camels' lead to seven at 58-51 with just over 13 minutes to go before the Camels extended their lead for good.

With around 11 minutes to go in the contest, Gabelman scored her 1,000th career point to become the 13th all-time Conn College women's basketball player to reach that milestone.

Conn College finished the game shooting 41% from the floor, while the Falcons shot 41.7%.  The Camels hit eight three-point field goals, including five in the first half alone.

Caitlin Cimino tallied 11 points for the Camels as Kate Cole added 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from behind the arc off the bench.

For Albertus, Annie Raucci (Milford, Conn.) had 16 points, while Annie Sutila (Bridgeport, Conn.) tallied 15 with five made three-pointers.

Albertus returns to action on Monday, Jan. 6 at Framingham State. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
