The Albertus Magnus women's basketball team earned its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory of the season on Thursday night with a 71-50 win over Simmons College in Boston.

The Falcons are now 4-17 on the year and 1-6 in league action, while Simmons falls to 2-15 overall and 0-6 in GNAC play.

Albertus held Simmons to a 36% showing from the floor and Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) tallied 30 points to pace the Falcons in their league victory.

Albertus scored 24 points off of 21 Simmons' turnovers and held the lead for a majority of the contest. The Sharks cut the Albertus lead down to six but a 7-0 run for the Falcons extended Albertus' lead for good. The Falcons led by as many as 23 points with 3:05 to go in the contest.

The Falcons shot over 40% on the night and held Simmons to under 14% from behind the arc. Annie Raucci (Milford, Conn.) scored 12 points, while Kelsey Pendagast (Shelton, Conn.) tallied 11. Annie Sutila (Bridgeport, Conn.) added nine points and five rebounds.

Kim Hixon led Simmons with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Liz Brasa added 10.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday, Feb. 8 when they host Mount Ida College in a 1:00 p.m. contest.  The team asks its fans to wear pink to the game to raise awareness of breast cancer and the Play 4Kay Initiative.
