Carrero Named GNAC Player of the Year

Albertus Magnus women's basketball standout Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) has been named the 2014 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Year.

Carrero, who is the Falcons' only Academic All-American in school history, becomes the first Falcon to earn the honor since Kendrea Walker in 2010.

Carrero earned numerous GNAC Player of the Week honors throughout the year and led the conference with 25.2 points per game and a 41.1 three-point shooting percentage.  Her 25.2 points per game also ranked second in the nation in Division III women's basketball.

Carrero was also named to the GNAC All-Conference First Team for the second-straight year, while it was her third year earning GNAC All-Tournament Team honors after being named to the Third Team as a sophomore.

Throughout her career, she led the Falcons each season with in total points and points per game.

This past season, she became the program's all-time leading scorer, surpassing Natalia Perlaza's '05, as Carrero finished her career with 1,905 points.

For the third time in school history, the Falcons produced the GNAC Player of the Year in both men's and women's basketball as Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) was tagged as the GNAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year for 2014.  In 2010, Ray Askew and Kendrea Walker earned the honors, while in 2005 Tim Russell and Natalia Perlaza were tagged as GNAC Players of the Year, respectively.
