Brooklyn, N.Y. – The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball cruised to a 90-32 road victory against Medgar Evers in non-conference action on Tuesday night inside the Cougars Cave. With their third straight win, the Falcons improve to 4-3 on the year while the host Cougars dropped their seventh in a row to fall to 0-7 overall.
In the first-ever meeting between the two teams, Albertus Magnus forced a season-high 30 turnovers and held Medgar Evers to just over 22 percent shooting. The Falcon depth was evident in the victory, as the guests bench outscored the Cougars reserves, 33-2.
Albertus Magnus never trailed in the contest and shot over 81 percent from the free-throw line (18-of-22). The Falcons controlled play in both the post and in transition, outscoring the Cougars, 36-12, in the paint and 14-2 on fast breaks.
Four Falcons scored in double figures in the victory, led by junior guard Liz Falcigno (Wallingford, Conn.) with a game-high 23 points on an impressive 8-of-11 shooting. Falcigno connected on 4-of-6 shots from beyond the arc and recorded three steals on the defensive end. Sophomore forward Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) continued her dominant start to the season, pouring in 19 points and grabbing four rebounds to go along with a team-high four steals. Off the bench, sophomore guard Angelina Piccirillo (Naugatuck, Conn.) and freshman forward Zaria Cobbs (Elmsford, N.Y.) were the other Falcons in double figures, adding 10 and 11 points, respectively. Senior starters Olivia Sutherland (Wallingford, Conn.) and Kelsey Pendagast (Shelton, Conn.) also played well in the victory for the visitors. Sutherland scored nine points and dished out six assists, while Pendagast grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and blocked three shots.
Offensively, Danyelle Foster was the lone Cougar to score in double digits, netting 13 points and pulling down a game-high 16 rebounds.
A big difference in the contest was three-point shooting, as the Falcons hit eight shots from deep and Medgar Evers missed all 16 of its attempts from beyond the arc.
AMC topped the 87-point plateau for the third straight game.
Albertus Magnus returns to action on Thursday, December 3, with a road non-conference clash against Farmingdale State at 7:00 pm. Last season, the Falcons scored a 75-60 home victory against the Rams.
