Farmingdale, N.Y. – Five players scored in double figures to lead the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team past host Farmingdale State, 90-70, on Thursday night in non-conference action inside the Walter A. Lynch Sports Center. With their fourth straight victory, the Falcons improved to 5-3 on the year, while the Rams dropped their first home contest of the season to fall to 2-4 overall.
Junior guard Liz Falcigno (Wallingford, Conn.) paced the Falcon offensive attack for the third straight game, pouring in a team-high 18 points thanks to 7-of-11 shooting from the field. The 5-7 transfer knocked down 4-of-5 shots from beyond the arc to go along with two rebounds and two assists. Senior point guard Olivia Sutherland (Wallingford, Conn.) and sophomore forward Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) each netted 14 points apiece in the triumph. Sutherland had arguably her strongest game of the winter, hitting 5-of-7 free throw attempts and adding six rebounds and a trio of assists. Bolden shot 6-of-11 from and connected on her two shots from the charity while pulling down seven rebounds. Senior forward Kelsey Pendagast (Shelton, Conn.) registered a double-double courtesy of 13 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore guard Angelina Piccirillo (Naugatuck, Conn.) added 12 points off the bench for Albertus Magnus.
Farmingdale State was led on the offensive end by sophomore guard Tyra Harrison with a game-high 30 points on 11-of-26 shooting. The speedy guard also dished out six assists and pulled down three rebounds, while going 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. The other Ram to score in double figures was junior guard Charnae Jenkins with 15 points courtesy of connecting on 5-of-8 shots from three-point range. Junior guard Meghan Cleary had a solid game for the Rams as well, scoring eight points and adding five rebounds.
As a team, the visitors shot 44 percent from the field and forced 14 turnovers en route to the non-conference win. Albertus Magnus jumped out to an early 25-14 advantage after the first quarter and stretched their lead to as many as 22 at halftime. In the second frame, the Falcons pulled away and took advantage of the hosts making just 2-of-8 attempts from the free-throw line.
In the second half, AMC stretched its lead to as many as 41 early in the fourth quarter. The biggest difference in the tilt came on the interior as the Falcons controlled the boards, outrebounding the Rams, 67-27. The +40 rebounding margin was the largest for the Falcons this season. In the paint, Albertus Magnus also held a 50-32 edge in scoring.
The Falcons topped the 85-point plateau for the fourth straight contest.
Albertus Magnus returns to action this Saturday, December 5, with a home non-conference clash against Empire State foe New Rochelle in non-conference action at 1:00 pm. The Falcons scored a 31-point victory against the Blue Angels last winter.
