Deja Ward Earns GNAC Rookie of the Week Honors

Winthrop, Mass. – Albertus Magnus College freshman women's basketball player Deja Ward (Middletown, Conn.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week on Monday morning as announced by the league office.

Ward earns the accolade for the first time this winter and is the first Falcon to receive the distinction since teammate Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) last February.  Ward also becomes the second AMC women's basketball player to be honored by the league this season, joining Bolden (Player of the Week on January 4).

She averaged 10 points, four assists and two rebounds in a perfect 3-0 week for the Falcons. In a GNAC win against St. Joseph (Conn.) she scored 10 points to go along with two assists and two steals. In non-conference play, Ward netted 14 points on 5-10 shooting versus Purchase. She ended the week with six points, two rebounds and a career-high eight assists in conference victory against Mount Ida last weekend.

Ward currently leads all freshmen in the conference in field goal percentage (42.7).

Coming off an 89-77 triumph on Monday afternoon versus Rivier at home, Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, January 23, with a road conference clash against Norwich at 1:00 pm.
