Women's Basketball Weekly Preview: Mount St. Vincent & Simmons

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team went 1-0 last week, defeating conference foe Rivier, 89-77, on Martin Luther King Day. In their fourth straight victory, Albertus Magnus led throughout the contest, building their advantage to as many as 18 early in the fourth quarter. The Falcons took a season-high 45 free throws in the game and won the battle of the boards, 49-33.

This Week: The Falcons welcome Mount St. Vincent to New Haven in non-conference action before travelling to the Bay State to square off with Simmons in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play this weekend.

Last Meeting: The Dolphins scored a 75-70 victory over the Falcons at home in December of last season. In the tilt, Mount St. Vincent forced 24 AMC turnovers and never trailed in the second half. Albertus Magnus was dominant in the post, outrebounding CMSV, 58-40, and outscoring the Dolphins, 30-22, in the paint.

Series History: Last season's meeting was the first-ever between the two schools.

Scouting Mount St. Vincent: The Dolphins enter Tuesday evening's contest riding a two-game winning streak following a pair of conference victories. Away from home, Mount St. Vincent is 5-6 this winter. In non-conference games, the team has a 3-4 mark. The squad is averaging over 66 points per game and shooting 38 percent from the field. Christina Barone is the lone Dolphin averaging in double figures, pouring in 11 points per game. Barone is the team's top shooter, knocking down over 40 percent of her three-point attempts.

Last Meeting: Albertus Magnus scored an 81-56 home victory against the Sharks last January. Olivia Bolden paced the Falcon attack with a game-high 23 points and 15 rebounds. Albertus Magnus forced 19 turnovers in the game and won the battle of the boards, 48-38. In the paint, AMC was dominant, outscoring the guests, 40-16.

Series History: Albertus Magnus leads the all-time series, 15-5, and has won four straight meetings with Simmons. All four of the Falcon wins have come by double digits during that stretch. AMC has won the last three games they've played at Simmons.

Scouting Simmons: The Sharks open the week coming off a 61-55 GNAC setback at Mount Ida. The team's lone conference win this season came at home versus Saint Joseph (Conn.) in mid-January. Simmons is 6-2 at home this winter with their setbacks coming versus WPI and Suffolk. Simmons ranks last in the GNAC in points per game (53.7) and ninth in field goal percentage (33.4). The team ranks fourth in rebounds (45.4) and second in steals (10.1) in the league as well. Freshman guard Francesca Corsinetti leads the offensive charge with over nine points per contest. On the boards, junior forward Ashley McAdams pulls down a team-high nine rebounds per tilt.

Albertus Notes:
- For the second time this winter, Bolden was tabbed as the GNAC Player of the Week on Monday. She had a career day against Rivier last week, pouring in 31 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. The 5-10 forward was a force in the paint all day and got to the free-throw line 16 times, making 11 of them. The double-double was Bolden's third in a row and sixth of the winter. She ranks fourth in the conference in scoring (17.0).
- Junior transfer Liz Falcigno continued her hot shooting, knocking down all three of her attempts from three-point range en route to a 21-point effort against the Raiders. She also went 12-of-14 from the charity stripe to top the 20-point plateau for the fourth time this year. Falcigno leads the GNAC in three-point shooting (41.3 %).
- Kelsey Pendagast also netted 21 points in the win to go along with nine rebounds, two assists and one block on 8-of-14 shooting. She leads the team and ranks ninth in the conference with over nine rebounds per game.
- Albertus Magnus averages a conference-best 74 points per game and is shooting better than 38 percent from the field. The Falcons ranks second in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (31.4) and lead the GNAC in rebounding with more than 48 boards per game.
