Women's Basketball Weekly Preview: Anna Maria, Conn. College & Lasell

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team went 2-0 last week, defeating Mount St. Vincent at home in non-conference action before taking down Simmons, 57-46, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on the road. With the victory against the Sharks, Albertus Magnus ran its winning streak to six games and jumped into fourth-place in the league standings. Sophomore forward Olivia Bolden paced the Falcons in both contests, recording a pair of double-doubles. Albertus Magnus forced 28 Simmons turnovers in the conference win and held the Sharks to just 34 percent shooting.

This Week: Albertus Magnus takes to the court three times, hosting Anna Maria and Connecticut College before traveling to face Lasell over the weekend.

Last Year Versus Anna Maria: The AMCATS scored an 81-68 home victory in the regular season finale last season. Anna Maria broke a halftime tie by shooting over 50 percent from the field and forcing eight AMC turnovers in the second half in the triumph.

Series History: Albertus Magnus leads the all-time series, 8-4, but Anna Maria has won the last two meetings by double digits. The AMCATS have also won two straight games in New Haven.

Scouting Anna Maria: The AMCATS begin the week in the midst of an eight-game losing streak. During that stretch, Anna Maria has lost each contest by double digits and is surrendering over 72 points per game. The backcourt tandem of juniors Christina Gauvin and Deja Taitt are the lone AMCATS averaging in double figures, scoring 13.5 and 12.3 points per game. Anna Maria ranks 10th in the GNAC in scoring (57.8 points per game). The AMCATS are shooting just under 33 percent from the field.

Series History: Connecticut College leads the all-time series, 12-6, dating back to the first-ever meeting between the two in 1990. The Camels have won each of the last four meetings, all by double digits. At home, the Falcons are 3-4 against the Camels.

Scouting the Camels: Connecticut College is averaging over 73 points a game and shooting just under 42 percent from the field. The Camels are also shooting over 30 percent from three-point range and 71 percent from the charity stripe. The balanced offensive attack sees four players average in double figures led by Mairead Hayes with 13 points per tilt. Hayes shoots a team-best 57 percent from the field and is pulling down over eight boards a game.

Last Season Versus Lasell: Albertus Magnus scored an 81-59 victory at home against the Lasers last January. The Falcons jumped out to a 20-5 lead in the opening frame to set the pace for the contest.  During the first half, Albertus shot 57 percent from the field to build an 18-point lead.

Series History: Albertus Magnus leads the all-time series, 6-3, dating back to the first-ever meeting between the two in 1997. The Falcons have won five of the last six meetings and AMC is 3-2 on the road against Lasell.

Scouting the Lasers: Lasell begins the week riding a two-game GNAC winning streak.  Lasell ranks eighth in the GNAC in scoring, netting over 58 points per game. In conference play, the Lasers are shooting over 30 percent from three-point range. Senior guard Katie Stopera is one of two Lasers to average in double figures, scoring a team-high 17 points per game. Stopera also averages eight rebounds and three assists per game.

Bolden recorded a pair of double-doubles in two Falcon wins last week. She has now registered five straight double-doubles and has eight on the season. In a non-conference win versus Mount St. Vincent, she scored 18 points to go along with 12 rebounds, two steals and a block. Bolden capped her week with a 19-point, 13-rebound performance in a 57-46 GNAC win at Simmons. Also versus the Sharks, she recorded a season-high four steals.
- Freshman guard Deja Ward averaged 10 points and six assists in a pair of Falcon victories last week. Ward shot an impressive 71 percent from the field and knocked down one shot from beyond the arc. In a non-conference win, she hit 3-of-4 shots from the field for 10 points and added six assists. She capped her week with a 9-point, 6-assist, 5-steal performance in an 11-point GNAC win at Simmons.
- Albertus Magnus leads the GNAC in scoring and three-point shooting, pouring in over 73 points per contest and knocking down over 32 percent of their attempts from beyond the arc. The Falcons are second in the conference in rebounding, pulling down just North of 47 boards a game.
- Junior Liz Falcigno leads the team and ranks second in the GNAC in three-point shooting percentage, hitting 41 percent of her treys. She is second on the team in scoring, netting 16 points a game and shooting 45 percent from the field.
