Farmingdale State Bests Women's Basketball in a Neutral-Site Battle

Amherst, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team dropped a back-and-forth neutral-site clash with Farmingdale State, 72-64, on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at LaFrak Gymnasium on the campus of Amherst College.

The Falcons (2-2) dropped their second straight game in the Bay State, while the Rams (1-2) picked up their first win of the season.

It was a two-headed attack for Albertus Magnus as both senior guard Liz Falcigno (Wallingford, Conn.) and junior forward Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) recorded double-doubles. Bolden poured in a game-high 19 points on 8-of-20 shooting and pulled down a season-high 17 boards, while Falcigno netted 15 points and grabbed a career-best 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard Deja Ward (Middletown, Conn.) continued her strong play with nine points and game-high seven assists. Another contributor for the Falcons was junior Angelina Piccirillo (Naugatuck, Conn.) with eight points and six rebounds off the bench.

Farmingdale State had a balanced offensive attack with four different players scoring in double figures. The Rams did a good job of distributing the ball and had 15 assists on 27 made field goals compared to 10 assists on 26 field goals for the Falcons. Tyra Harrison led the onslaught for FSU with 15 points, while Ahyana Green chipped in 13 off the bench.

Albertus Magnus had a 61-51 advantage on the glass, outreboudning the Rams by 10. However,Farmingdale State took advantage of 28 AMC turnovers and converted them into 19 points. The depth was a factor in the tilt as the FSU reserves outscored the Falcons, 26-8.

After the opening minutes of the game, Farmingdale State never trailed. The Falcons kept the game within reach for most of the contest with the largest Farmingdale State advantage being 12 late in the game.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Tuesday, November 22, with a road non-conference contest against regional foe Purchase State. Last winter, the Falcons topped the Panthers, 86-50, in the Elm City.
