Women's Basketball Drops 75-61 Decision to Johnson & Wales

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Despite a 26-point performance from junior Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team fell to Johnson & Wales, 75-61, on Saturday afternoon in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Over the first 10 minutes of play, Johnson & Wales found themselves ahead 17-6 before extending its lead to 17, 25-8, following an 8-2 run. Albertus continued to chip away at the double-digit lead and found themselves trailing the Wildcats 35-18 at the half.

The third quarter was a different story as the Falcons came together as a team and brought the score to within 12, 49-37, after trailing the visitors by 19, 37-18, to start off the frame. Johnson & Wales pushed its lead back up to 15, 54-39, with 18 seconds left on the clock, but Kiki Epps (Norwalk, Conn.) made the score 54-41 after a nice feed from Jill Johnson (North Haven, Conn.) to end the third.

Albertus Magnus did not back down in the fourth as a three-point play from Bolden cut the visitors' lead to 10, 62-52, with 6:54 remaining to play. The Falcons continued to pressure the Wildcats, but at the 1:18 mark Sarah Duryea pushed the visitors' lead back up to 18, 75-57, before securing the 75-61 victory.

FIRST HALF STATS

  • Albertus began the game shooting only 18.2 percent from the floor in the first.
  • Jill Johnson (North Haven, Conn.) led the offensive attack in the second quarter with a team-high four points.
  • Johnson & Wales largest lead of the game came in the second quarter as the visitors' led by 21 with 4:11 remaining.

SECOND HALF STATS

  • Albertus outscored Johnson & Wales in third 23-19.
  • Bolden scored 22 of her 26 points in the second half.
  • Two different Falcons registered four rebounds each in the final 20 minutes of play.

FINAL STATS

  • Bolden picked up her 15th double-double of the season as the forward earned 25 points and collected 19 rebounds.
  • Liz Falcigno (Wallingford, Conn.) and Kiki Epps (Norwalk, Conn.) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
  • Both Albertus and Johnson & Wales registered 17 second chance points, but the Wildcats held a 46-35 edge in rebounds.
