POST SEASON BEGINS

The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team has earned the No. 4 seed in the GNAC South Division and will travel to top-seeded Saint Joseph's Maine in the GNAC North Division on Tuesday, February 21st for a quarterfinal matchup. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.

Falcons Cruise Past St. Joe's (Conn.) - RECAP/BOX SCORE

  • The Falcons picks up their 13th win of the season as the team defeated in-state foe Saint Joseph's (Conn.), 72-55,
  • All five starters finished in double-figures for the Falcons who used a very balanced scoring approach. 
  • Albertus won the battle on the glass out-rebounding the Blue Jays as a team 50-46 and held a significant advantage in points in the paint, 42-22. 
  • USJ shot 33.9 percent (19-of-56) from the floor, while Albertus hit for 41.1 percent (30-of-73).

Victory on Senior Day– RECAP/BOXSCORE

  • The Falcons concluded the regular season with a 81-66 win over Mount Ida on Saturday afternoon as part of Senior Day.
  • The women's basketball team honored its three-member senior class – Aaliyah Bohannon (Bridgeport, Conn.), Liz Falcigno (Wallingford, Conn.) and Megan Thornton (Worcester, Mass.)
  • Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) had a game-high 17 rebounds, along with three blocks, two steals and two assists as well as netted 24 points.
  • Albertus got 15 points from Liz Falcigno (Wallingford, Conn.) and 13 points, four assists and four steals out of Jill Johnson (North Haven, Conn.).

SCOUTING THE FALCONS

  • The team is making its 16 appearance in the GNAC Tournament and looking to advance past the Quarterfinals for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
  • Junior Olivia Bolden leads the team as well as the GNAC averaging 20.3 points and 12.6 rebounds per game. She also ranks fourth in the league shooting 49.5 percent from the field.
  • Albertus leads the conference averaging 71.1 points per game. The Falcons are also second in the league with 10.8 steals per game.
  • The Falcons' three of the five starters are averaging above 10 points per game, including Liz Falcigno (Wallingford, Conn.) and Jill Johnson (North Haven, Conn.)

SCOUTING THE MONKS

  • Saint Joseph's finishes the 2016-17 regular season with an overall record of 21-4 and a conference mark of 15-1. The Monks only GNAC loss was against Rivier earlier this year.
  • The Monks are currently averaging 66.6 points per game while shooting 39.4 percent from the field, 33.1 percent from behind the arc and 66.8 percent from the charity stripe.
  • Kelsi McNamara leads the team averaging 15.0 points per game as well as ranking fifth in the league shooting 37.0 percent from three-point range.
  • Emily Benway ranks first on the team and fifth in the GNAC with 8.7 rebounds per game.
  • The Monks are second in the conference in turnovers per game with 14.7.

  • The women's basketball team fell on the road to Saint Joseph's (Maine), 70-54, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Harold Alfond Center back on December 3, 2016.
  • Junior forward Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) led the charge for Albertus Magnus with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. Bolden also hit three shots from the free-throw line to go along with nine rebounds, one steal and one block.
  • Sophomore guard Jill Johnson (North Haven, Conn.) was the other Falcon in double figures with 12 points.
