Osmond's 25-Point Effort Not Enough in Falcons' Loss to Suffolk

Boston, Mass. - Despite a 25-point effort from senior Shyla Osmond (New Haven, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team fell on the road to Suffolk University, 65-59, on Thursday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash on the Andy Yosinoff Court located on the campus of Emmanuel (Mass.) College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was all Suffolk from the get go as the Rams jumped out to an impressive 11-2 lead behind five points from Gabrielle Demco. At the 5:10 mark, Cassie Couture (Waterbury, Conn.) snapped the scoreless drought for the Falcons with a made free throw attempt to bring the score to 11-3.

Suffolk continued to build on its early advantage and extended the lead to double-digits, 16-6. The final 2:23 of the stanza saw the Falcons attempt a comeback and pull within three, 16-13, at the end of the first.

The second quarter started off with Albertus and Suffolk trading baskets until a layup from Andreah Orr (Danbury, Conn.) cut the deficit to three, 20-17. The Rams countered back with five unanswered points to push their lead to eight, 25-17, with 6:40 left on the clock.

The Falcons trimmed to lead down to six, 30-24, after a deep three from Kyah Nowlin (Stamford, Conn.), but the visitors trailed 33-24 at the half.

Out of the locker room, Suffolk slowly began to rebuild a double-digit lead and led by as many as 14, 48-34, with 3:25 remaining in the third. The Rams started to cool off and the Falcons heated up, putting together a 10-4 run to pull within eight, 52-44, at the end of the quarter.

Albertus put on the pressure in the fourth as the Falcons opened the stanza with a 13-4 scoring run to take its second lead of the night, 57-56. With 3:03 left on the clock, Suffolk resumed control of the lead and closed out regulation with a 9-2 run to earn its second conference win of the season.

  • This is the 24th meeting between the two programs. 
  • Following tonight's win, Suffolk extends the all-time series record to 17-8.
  • The Falcons suffered their first neutral site loss of the season.
  • Alberts outscored the Rams in both the third (20-19) and fourth (15-13) quarter, respectively. 
  • Couture was two rebounds shy of recording her first career double-double.
  • Thompson led the defensive unit with two blocks while Morgan Violette (North Branford, Conn.) posted one in the fourth quarter. 
  • Freshman Beatriz Honorio (Bridgeport, Conn.) tied her season-high in assists with two.
