Late Rally Falls Just Short As Women's Basketball Drops Opener To Framingham State

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team lost their opening game, 78-72 to Framingham State on Wednesday evening at The Nest on the campus of Albertus Magnus.

Caitlyn Scott (White Plains, N.Y.) led the way for the Falcons with 28 points and Jakara Murray-Leach (Norwalk, Conn.) had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons were down 5-2 early before Scott tied the game with a layup. She was fouled on the play and hit the free throw to tie the game.
  • A three from Amanda Zdru (Stratford, Conn.) gave the Falcons their first lead of the game at 8-7
  • The Rams finished the first quarter on a 6-2 run to take a 22-16 lead as they hit two free throws with no time remaining at the end of the frame.
  • Scott finished with nine points in the first quarter while Flannery O'Connor had 11 for the Rams.
  • Albertus jumped out to a 10-2 run to begin the second quarter capped by a three from Diamond White (Hamden, Conn.).
  • The Rams took the lead back on a three from Chloe Rayko.
  • Murray-Leach gave the Falcons one more lead in the quarter with a three of her own on a pass from Scott, but the Rams scored the final eight points over the last 1:48 to lead 38-31 at the half.
  • Framingham State took an early 40-31 lead in the third, but the Falcons stormed back with the next seven to cut their deficit to two after a steal and fastbreak layup by Scott with 7:18 remaining. It was the closest the Falcons got in the quarter as the Rams extended its lead to 63-50 before a three from Scott with a second remaining cut the Rams lead to 63-53.
  • It was all Falcons for just over the first seven minutes as they went on a 15-7 run to close the gap to two points after six points from Scott and five from Natasha Rivera (Ansonia, Conn.). The Falcons had two straight possessions to take the lead but could not convert on two three-pointers.
  • The Rams were able to hold off the comeback attempt as they went 7-for-9 down the stretch from the free-throw line.
