RECORDS: Albertus (4-3) | St. Joseph's (L.I.) (7-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After St. Joseph's opened up the game with a three from Isabella Sierra in the first quarter, the Falcons answered with the next six points as Murray-Leach, White and Amanda Zdru (Stratford, Conn.) all made layups to put Falcons up, 6-3. Four of the points came off turnovers, with the last coming on a fastbreak after a steal from Scott who assisted on Zdru's layup.
- The Golden Eagles took the lead back on back-to-back threes from Charlotte Twohig and Megan Spina to make it an 11-9 game. Albertus tied it on a jumper from White and the lead would change hands four more times in the quarter as Albertus took a slim 20-18 lead after the first ten minutes. All five starters scored in the first quarter as White led the way with eight.
- St. Joseph's opened the second quarter on a 7-1 run and took a 25-21 lead on a layup from Twohig at the 5:53 mark. Albertus scored the next six points, the final two coming from Johnson after the Falcons grabbed three offensive rebounds to take a 27-25 lead with 3:42 left. The two teams combined for just two field goals over the last three minutes as the teams were tied 30-30 going into halftime.
- The third quarter started with the Golden Eagles taking their biggest lead of the game at 40-34 with 5:48 on the clock as Emma Kelly and Sierra each hit a three early on. The Falcons battled back with a 13-2 run fueled by two threes and eight points from Scott to take a 47-42 lead with 2:03 left. Albertus took a 49-46 lead into the fourth.
- White hit an early three in the fourth to give Albertus a 52-48 with 8:32 remaining. The two teams remained mostly in a one-possession game over the next four minutes. With the game tied at 57-57, Elizabeth Bruno (Providence, R.I.) gave Albertus a 60-57 after being fouled on a made layup. She'd sink the free throw to give Albertus the three-point advantage. Felicia Barreiros of St. Joseph's made it a one-point game on the next possession, but Scott scored the next four points to take a 64-59 lead with 3:33 left.
