Women's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight, Remain Unbeaten In GNAC After Topping Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team won its fourth straight game and remain undefeated in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) after defeating Lasell, 81-65 on Saturday afternoon.

Caitlyn Scott (White Plains, N.Y.) led four Falcons in double figures with 21 points to go with eight rebounds and seven assists. Diamond White (Hamden, Conn.) scored 20 points with four assists and four steals. 

Jakara Murray-Leach notched a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Elizabeth Bruno had 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting with six rebounds.

Murray-Leach moved up to fourth all-time on the Albertus scoring list, and now sits at 1,592 points in her career. White moved up 12th all-time in scoring and now as 1,224 points in her career.

Scott, the third all-time leading scorer in program history, cracked the 1,800 point mark in her career, and now has 1,806 points in her career.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons opened up the game with a 12-7 lead just over six minutes in as Scott and White combined for all the points, including one three-pointer apiece. Lasell, however, ended the quarter on an 8-3 run to tie the game, 15-15 as five different players scored over the last 3:21 for the Lasers. White had eight points in the quarter and Scott, seven.
  • There were four lead changes in the second quarter as the Lasers struck first with a tip-in from Laura Johnson just 31 seconds in. The Falcons followed with a tip-in from Murray-Leach followed by a three from Amanda Zdru (Stratford, Conn.) to give the Eagles the 22-17 lead.
  • Lasell took the lead back, 28-27 after a free-throw from Daeserae Williamson with 1:47 remaining, but Bruno followed with a three, and then made a jumper with two seconds left to give Albertus a 33-28 heading into the half. Bruno finished with 10 of her 14 points in the quarter.
  • After a three from Juju Nealy of Lasell cut the Albertus lead to 35-33 just 95 seconds into the second half, the Falcons exploded for a 20-4 run over the next four minutes to take a commanding 55-37 lead. Murray-Leach began the run with a jumper followed by a layup and free throw from Scott. Both Bruno and White followed with back-to-back layups before Scott and White hit consecutive threes to give Albertus a 50-33 lead. White hit one more three for Albertus in the run at the 4:16 mark. Albertus grabbed every available defensive rebound over the run.
  • Blaize Mack scired four straight points for the Lasers as they cut the Albertus lead to 55-46 with 1:02 left. Murray-Leach scored the final three points of the quarter as the Falcons led 58-46 going into the fourth.
  • The Falcons opened the fourth quarter with a 13-3 run behind a three from Scott and Murray-Leach and a jumper from Bruno to give them a 71-49 lead at the 6:33 mark. Albertus would lead by as much as 23 on multiple occassions and did not let the Lasers get any closer the rest of the way.

Bruno has scored in double figures in her last three games, shooting 55.1 percent (16-for-29) from the field in that span.

Albertus is now 17-3 all-time against Lasell and have won the last 12 meetings.
