Scott Scores 2,000th Career Point; Women's Basketball Falls To Anna Maria

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Caitlyn Scott (White Plains, N.Y.) of the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team became the second player in program history to eclipse 2,000 career points after scoring a game-high 33, but the Falcons lost a 93-76 game to Anna Maria College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game.

Scott who now has 2,015 career points, is just three points away from becoming the program's all-time leading scorer. Olivia Bolden is the current record holder with 2,017 points.

Scott also finished the game with three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Diamond White (Hamden, Conn.) scored 13 points, and Elizabeth Bruno (Providence, R.I.) had 10 points and eight rebounds. Jakara Murray-Leach (Norwalk, Conn.) scored nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Albertus held an early 4-3 lead after baskets by Scott and White, but Anna Maria scored the next six points, including a three from Timyah Bankhead to tame a 9-4 lead. Albertus scored the next four points that included a steal and fastbreak layup from Bruno to get within one point. From there, the Amcats finished the first quarter on a 14-4 run that included seven points from Madison Paulhus as Anna Maria went ahead 23-12 after the first 10 minutes.
  • The Falcons crept back to within six points at 25-19 after threes from White and Bruno to start the scoring for Albertus followed by a free throw from Scott.  A 12-2 run from Anna Maria followed as Paulhus and Marinique Reddin led the charge put the Amcats up 37-21 with 5:04 left. Anna Maria finished the half with a 43-29 lead. Scott led the Falcons with 13 points in the first half while Paulhus had 16 for Anna Maria.
  • Albertus trailed by as much as 26 points in the third quarter. During the quarter, Scott hit two free throws early on, and then with 2:01 remaining in the quarter, Scott hit a three off a pass from Hannah Barrientos (East Hampton, Conn.) to become the women's basketball program's second 2,000 point scorer.
  • The Falcons trimmed the Anna Maria lead to 71-55 as White and Scott connected for back-to-back layups to start the fourth quarter. However, it would be the closest they would get the rest of the way. Scott scored 13 points in the quarter for Albertus.
