HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Moments after the opening faceoff, King's got on the board just 16 seconds into the game as Sam Kulman put the Monarchs up, 1-0. It's all they would get as Christmas Johnson (Manitoba, Winnipeg) stopped the remaining 20 shots she faced.
  • Gootjes got Albertus on the board at the 3:53 mark as she ripped a slapshot past Monarchs' goaltender Hayley Packer, tying the game, 1-1.
  • In the second period, the Falcons scored three goals in five minutes to take complete control. First Retasket took a rebound off a shot from Walsh and had a wide open net to give Albertus its first lead of the game at the 13:33 mark.
  • Contreras scored her first goal of the game at the 16:25 mark of the second period as a shot from Martin was stopped, but Walsh tipped the rebound to Contreras who put it home to make it a 3-1 game.
  • Walsh scored a goal of her own at the 18:31 mark as this time the roles were reversed after Martin took a shot that was stopped. Contreras grabbed the rebound and made a touch pass to Walsh to make it a 4-1 game.
  • Contreras scored her second goal of the game 5:43 into the third. After a scrum around the boards for a loose puck, Contreras took possession of the puck and ripped a shot that rattled around the pipe and crossbar and in for the final goal of the game.
