HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The hosts struck first in the opening period as Gabriella Dellacroce (Woodbridge, Conn.) regained control of the puck after Molly Martin (Buffalo, N.Y. ) tapped the puck out to the point for Dellacroce to retrieve. Dellcroce skated around center to draw out the visiting defenders before splitting a pair of encroaching Cougars then quickly took a shot in the zone that just narrowly missed the glove of Brophy to slide inches into the net.
  • Sophia Taylor netted the equalizer for Chatham in the second intermission off the stick of Rainey Jessup. The visitors had two powerplay opportunities prior to the goal, but the Albertus backline held strong, including a blocked shot by Isabella Contreras (Surprise, Ariz.) and 15 saves by Christmas Johnson (Winnipeg, Manitoba).
  • Six minutes later, Chatham grabbed a 2-1 lead off a powerplay opportunity as Morgan Black rattled the net with a goal. The Cougars played aggresive during the two minute Albertus penalty with five shots prior to the tally.
  • Albertus had a close opportunity to even the score with less than two minutes remaining in the second period following Clark's won face off, but Dellacroce's shot was blocked by Black and Brophy made four consective saves.
  • After playing keep away with the puck, Dellacroce received the puck just past the blueline from Martin near the right siding as the sophomore attempted to notch her second goal of the night, buy Brophy was there for the save. Clark caught Dellacroce's ricocheted shot before drilling the puck toward the net, where a scrum in front allowed the puck to slip past Brophy between the posts. Clark's at 6:16 into the third period eventually forced extra time.
  • In overtime, Albertus had seven chances to connect with the target, but Brophy was there to send them all way, while Johnson nabbed three and Kendall Conley (Trumbull, Conn.) blocked one Cougar attempt.
  • The first two shootout attempts by both teams resulted in a miss, but Clarissa Hayes' shot made it in for the Cougars. Martin evened the shootout with a successful shot of her own, but the Cougars final skater connected for the shootout win.
