Trocchio Debuts in the Net; Women's Ice Hockey Drops NEHC Contest with William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y. — In her debut in the net for the Albertus Magnus College women's ice hockey team, Jess Trocchio (Holtsville, N.Y.) stopped all 12 shots by the William Smith College Herons in a scoreless first period on Saturday, but the Falcons fell, 6-0 to the New England Hockey Cofference opponent.

Trocchio saved 37 shots for a career-high between the pipes for Albertus, including all dozen attempts in the first intermission by the home team.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a scoresless opening period, Kelly Howe put the Herons on the board at 6:43 in the second off the passes from Allie Cimis and Seneca Urban. Troochio collected sixe more saves before the hosts netted their second goal of the night seven minutes later.
  • Kendall Conley (Trumbull, Conn.) had a close opportunity to put the Falcons on the board following a won face off by Amanda Lepore (Trumbull, Conn.) at 11:26, but Heron defender Susan Rotherham blocked the shot.
  • During a Herons powerplay, Molly Martin (Buffalo, N.Y.), Tori Walsh (Marystown, Newfoundland) and Trocchio sent away three consecutive shots to deny William Smith to take advantage of the shorthanded Falcons.
  • Less than three minutes into the final period, Albertus played aggressively on offense with straight shots by Kayla Clark (Avon, Conn.), Walsh, Conley and Ariana Martin (Hamden, Conn.), but the first was saved by Mia Iwicki in the net and the remainder blocked by Herons.
  • After a blocked shot by Delaney Schlechtweg (New York, N.Y. ), the first-year rallied back to the William Smith zone for a shot towards the net, but Iwicki made another save for William Smith.
  • William Smith tacked on four more goals throughout the remainder of the third period.
