THE BASICS
FINAL OT: Vermont State Castleton 2 | Albertus Magnus 1
RECORDS: Albertus Magnus (1-4-1, 0-4-0 NEHC) | Castleton (3-1-1, 2-2-1 NEHC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first period, the Spartans scored first almost seven minutes into the second.
- Walsh picked up where she left off from her two-goal game in the first matchup and scored on a powerplay in just 17 seconds to tie the game up at one at the end of the second period. The Falcons found themselves in the attacking zone off a penalty by the hosts for a face-off between Kayla Clark (Avon, Conn.) and Mikayla Brightman. Castleton won the face-off, but Walsh battled on the ice to regain control of the puck for the Falcons before sending it back to Clark. Albertus managed to keep its composure as Gabriella Dellacroce (Woodbridge, Conn.) dribbled the puck in front of the blue line before passing it to Clark in front of the Falcons bench, followed by the tip-in goal by Wash.
- The two sides battled back and forth and kept the game even between each side. Christmas Johnson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) played a strong game with 37 saves for the Falcons. Gianna McCusker made two huge saves in the closing minutes of the third period to keep the score level and send the game to overtime.
- The Spartans earned a powerplay in OT and were granted a 4-on-3 opportunity. Cycling the puck well, Castleton stayed patient until Meg Aiken connected with Taylor Adams on the far side of the net to give Castleton the victory.
