Johnson Earns Season-High 46 Saves in Loss Against Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Christmas Johnson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) recorded a season-high 46 saves through 47 minutes of action, but the Albertus Magnus College women's ice hockey team fell, 8-0, to in-state foe Connecticut College on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Albertus won the opening faceoff thanks to Amanda Lepore (Trumbull, Conn.) followed by the first shot by Aliyah Sawyer (Colorado Springs, Colo.) just 54 seconds in, but Connecticut's goaltender Alex Erdman made the save.
  • The visitors had another shot opportunity a minute later as Kayla Clark (Avon, Conn.) had the net in sight, but a Camel blocked the attempt.
  • After allowing the opening shots, Conn College responded and took control. The Camels peppered Johnson with shots and finally opened the scoring at 16:41 with a goal by Alana Burm.
  • Conn College doubled the lead just 32 seconds into the second period on a goal from Serena Seiple. The Camels followed by two more goals, including a powerplay goal Kate Hagness as they took a 4-0 lead into the third period.
  • The Camels added four more goals in the third period, including a second from Seiple. Jess Trocchio (Holtsville, Conn.) played 13 minutes in net for the Falcons in the third period, stopping 11 of the 13 shots she faced.
