Martin's Late Heroics Give Women's Ice Hockey Sweep Of Salem State In Regular Season Finale

SALEM, Mass. - Molly Martin (Buffalo, N.Y.) scored two goals including the game-winner in overtime as the Albertus Magnus College women's ice hockey team closed out its regular season with a 3-2 win over Salem State in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

Martin's two goals came on the power play. Kayla Clark (Avon, Conn.) had a goal and two assists for the Falcons.

Jess Trocchio (Holtsville, N.Y.) earned her second win of the season, stopping 23 shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Clark got the Falcons on the board with her eighth goal of the season at the 8:08 mark of the first period as Jodi Ostroski (Roseau, Minn.) found her with a pass from behind the net. Clark put the puck past Cassandra Valentine to make it a 1-0 game.
  • Salem State tied the game on the power pay as Isabelle Besser fired a shot into the net from just outside the right faceoff circle.
  • A scoreless second period saw Trocchio stop all nine of the shots she faced, while Valentine made 11 saves in the period.
  • The Vikings took the lead on a goal from Makayla McGrath at 7:07 in the third as Makayla McGrath scored after a centering pass from Ta Miles.
  • Martin's heroics began at the 11:21 mark of the third to tie the game on the power play. On the goal, Martin received a pass from Clark, faked out a defender and took a shot from the slot past Valentine, making it a 2-2 game, eventually sending the game into overtime.
  • Just 54 seconds into overtime, Clark and Martin passed the puck back and forth to each other before Martin snapped a shot past Valentine for the win. It was the third game-winning overtime goal for Martin on the season.
