Simmons Defeats Albertus 25-2 in Women's Lacrosse

The Albertus Magnus women's lacrosse team fell to Simmons College 25-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon in Boston.  Halle Altieri (Guilford, Conn.) and Miranda Jassil (North Branford, Conn.) both tallied a goal for the Falcons in the loss.

Simmons (4-1, 3-0 GNAC) opened the contest with eight unanswered goals before Altieri scored her second goal of the season to cut the Simmons' lead to 8-1.  The Sharks added eight more goals before Jassil connected on her second career goal to make the score 16-2.

At the half, Simmons led 20-2.  Ashley Sheehan led the Sharks with six first half goals, including three-straight goals in a five-minute time span.

The Sharks added five goals in the second half en route to a 25-2 victory.

Simmons outshot Albertus 34-2 in the first half, as the Falcons scored on their lone two shots of the contest.  The Sharks held a 12-0 shots advantage in the second frame.

Erika Blechert (Durham, Conn.) faced 37 shots in net as she made 12 saves for the Falcons. Simmons' Crystal Derosier allowed two goals and did not make a save as she faced two shots in net.

Simmons held the advantage in draw controls with a 22-5 effort, while the Sharks recorded 16 ground balls to the Falcons' three.

Albertus will play in its first game on Celentano Field in New Haven on Monday afternoon.  The Falcons will take on the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) in a 3:30 p.m. GNAC contest.
