New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team opened the 2016 season with a 20-3 setback at home versus Framingham State on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Celentano Field.
In the season opener for both squads, the visiting Rams won 19 of 26 draw controls and outshot the Falcons, 28-9, en route to the victory.
Three different Albertus Magnus players found the back of the net as junior Amanda Montano (North Haven, Conn.), senior Miranda Jassil (North Branford, Conn.) and freshman Aida Sarr (Bronx, N.Y.) all scored unassisted goals.
Offensively, sophomore midfielder Kimmy Foley paced the FSU attack with four goals and three assists, while junior midfielder Kristin Hoggins added four tallies and two helpers. Junior attack Claryssa Cunniff added three markers and classmate Lindsay Nixon added a goal and three assists for Framingham State.
Ram sophomore Mallory Fredericks won a game-high seven draw controls and Foley added five for the guests. For the Falcons, Montano, Jassil and Sarr all registered two draw controls apiece.
FSU was a perfect 8-of-8 on clear attempts, while the hosts were successful on 4-of-14 attempts.
Framingham State opened the scoring less than a minute into play courtesy of a strike from Foley. Two minutes later, Montano took the ball coast-to-coast and potted her first of the spring to knot the game at one. Over the next 12 minutes, the visitors responded with an 8-0 spurt capped by a Hoggins tally to build a 9-1 edge.
With 19:27 left in the opening frame, Jassil beat the Ram defender marking her and pulled the hosts to within seven at 9-2. Following Jassil's 32nd career goal, FSU ended the first half on a 5-0 run to lead 14-2 heading into halftime.
During the second half, the Rams sandwiched six goals around Sarr's first collegiate marker to earn their first win of the season.
In net, AMC freshman Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) turned aside four shots in a losing effort. On the opposite end, senior Alysha Cericola turned aside three shots during the first half to earn the win for Framingham State. Freshman Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath made one save in relief of Cericole during the second half.
Albertus Magnus returns to action on Wednesday, March 22, with a home non-conference clash against Daniel Webster at 7:00 pm. The contest will be the first-ever between the two schools.
