Martinez Collects All-Conference Accolades

Winthrop, Mass. – Sophomore midfielder Katherin Martinez (Norwalk, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team earned All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) honors for the first time in her career, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Martinez, who earned a spot on the GNAC Third Team, is the first player in program history to receive year-end honors.

Martinez enjoyed an outstanding 2019 campaign, one in which she led the Falcons in caused turnovers (27) and ground balls (58). She finished the spring campaign with seven points behind a career-high six assists and a goal. Martinez also served as a threat for the Falcons in draw controls ranking fourth on the team with 25.

In addition, senior Grace Vestro (Waterbury, Conn.) earned a spot on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team. This season, Vestro appeared in eight games, including two starts in goal, and finished with an overall record of 1-1. She tallied 26 saves over 226 minutes as well as posted a season-high seven saves in the win at Dean.

Founded in 1995, the GNAC annually sponsors and administers 20 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunity and community involvement in an effort to enhance the student-athlete experience.
