Women's Lacrosse Drops Heartbreaker to Regis in GNAC Opener

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Katherine Raposo (Warwick, R.I.) tallied a game-high nine points in Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse's heartbreaking 12-11 loss to Regis (Mass.) College in the Falcons' Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener on Saturday.

Raposo finished the game with seven goals and two assists in front of the home crowd at Celentano Field. Alexandra Barrett (Northford, Conn.) was next on the team with four points on two goals and two assists. In goal, Chloe Oliver (Milford, Conn.) made a season-high 11 saves in her second collegiate start.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons stormed ahead in the first quarter, scoring three of the game's first four goals. Barrett netted the contest's first tally on a pass from Bridget Rosikiewicz (Naugatuck, Conn.) before back-to-back Raposo strikes.

Albertus ended the first quarter up 5-3 after two Regis goals bookended two AMC tallies. Mariah Mandulak (Shelton, Conn.) hit the opening Falcon goal, the first of her collegiate career, which led to another Raposo tally.

Trailing 5-3 to start the second quarter, the Pride answered by recording all three goals in the frame to go ahead 6-3 at the halftime break.

Regis got the better of AMC again in the third quarter to take a 10-7 advantage into the fourth. Raposo and Barrett combined to score the Falcons' two goals in the third.

Trailing by three to start the fourth, Albertus began a comeback attempt. Rosikiewicz opened the quarter's scoring at the 12:29 mark. Then, after a Regis tally, Raposo took the game over with three straight goals to tie the score at 11-11 with 1:41 remaining.

A failed clear attempt by the Falcons sealed with 34 seconds left their fate, as the Pride capitalized on the mistake to score the game-winning goal with 19 seconds remaining.

Oliver posted a stellar day between the pipes for the Falcons, making a season-best 11 saves in her second collegiate start.
