Women's Lacrosse Suffers 14-11 Loss to Dean

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team suffered a hard-fought defeat to the Bulldogs of Dean College on Tuesday night, falling by a final score of 14-11 under the lights of Celentano Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Katherine Raposo (Warwick, R.I.) led the Falcons offensively with her fourth hat trick of the young season, tallying seven points behind a game-high six goals and one assist. Mariah Mandulak (Shelton, Conn.) chipped in with two goals. Between the pipes for Albertus, freshman Chloe Oliver (Milford, Conn.) was outstanding for the Falcons, as she made a season-high 24 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons commanded the action in the first quarter, scoring the first three goals before taking the quarter by a 5-2 margin. Mandulak netted the game's opening goal before back-to-back strikes by Raposo to make it a 3-0 AMC lead. Raposo scored again after Dean's first tally, while Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.) made it a 5-2 game heading to the second quarter.

Albertus continued to pressure in the second quarter, working a 4-4 tie in the period to take a 9-5 advantage into halftime. Amanda McGeehan (Milford, Conn.) opened the quarter with a goal at the 13:43 mark, while Raposo netted two tallies and Mandulak collected her second of the day.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, the Bulldogs started to come back at the start of the second half, taking an 11-9 advantage with 1:42 left in the quarter. However, Alexandra Barrett (Northford, Conn.) brought a spark to the Falcons before the end of the third, making it an 11-10 game with four seconds left after flying down the field and scoring with a lifted shot over the keeper.

Albertus continued its momentum swing by scoring the first goal of the fourth quarter to tie the game at 11-11. Raposo scored on a free-position shot 2:19 into the quarter to even the contest.

Unfortunately for Albertus, the Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth quarter with the game's final three goals to secure a 14-11 GNAC win.

  • McGeehan's goal in the second period was her second of the spring campaign.
