PAXTON, Ma. - The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team lost a 20-3 game to Anna Maria College in its 2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener.

Samantha Helwig (Northford, Conn.) led the Falcons with two goals, while Alexys Signor (North Haven, Conn.) added a goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The AMCATS scored the first five goals of the game, including the first two by Riley Michaud just seven seconds apart to take a 5-0 lead.
• Albertus got on the board thanks to Helwig as she she beat two defenders in a man-up situation to make it a 5-1 game at the 4:01 mark of the first.
• In the second period, Anna Maria scored the first two goals, including the second of the game from both Kyana Altif and Christine Ijawet to go up, 7-1, before Helwig added her second og the game on a free position shot to make it a 7-2 game with 11:01 remaining.
• However, Anna Maria scored the final six goals of the half, taking a 13-2 lead into halftime, as Ijawet scored two more.
• The Falcons were shutout in the third period as Anna Maria scored six goals to put the game away. Signor added her second goal of the season on a free position shot with 2:22 left in the game.
