HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Mariners jumped out to a two-goal lead early thanks to a pair of goals from Chloe Jennings, but Helwig answered with a goal at the 7:11 mark of the opening quarter to narrow the deficit to one in the first quarter. The junior cut through the left side of the scoring circle for the bullet at the eight-meter arc.
  • Less than two minutes later, the visitors padded their lead to two off a free-position goal by Lauren Cordero, followed by two-straight by Helwig to even the score at three apiece in the first period.
  • Mitchell opened the second quarter with a goal at 13:28, but an unassisted tally by Schlechtweg again knotted the game for the Falcons, 4-4. Tiffanie Ly (Branford, Conn.) forced a turnover as Schlechtweg picked up the groundball for the coast-to-coast goal.
  • Carter's goal at 10:38 gave Albertus its only lead of the matchup. The sophomore's tally came off a turnover by Mitchell and a groundball by Carter for Albertus' second coast-to-coast goal.
  • The Mariners netted four-straight, including four player-up goals before the break. Carly Potts scored twice during the stretch.
  • Twenty-three seconds into the third, DeJonge narrowed the gap for the Falcons by two for an 8-6 game.
  • A player-up goal gave the Mariners the three-goal edge, but J. Montano continued to fight for the Falcons with her first goal of the game.
  • Jennings and Potts scored again for Mitchell to put the visitors up, 11-7, at 5:44 in the third quarter.
  • J. Montano went to work for another goal in the period, this time with help from Schlechtweg with 2:30 remaining, making it an 11-8 game.
  • Helwig netted her fourth tally of the game in the final quarter, sandwiched by two from the Mariners to keep the Falcons in the game.
  • Albertus attempted a rally for two more in the remaining 2:38 in the fourth with unassisted goals by Signor and J. Montano, but the Mariners held onto the 13-11 lead through regulation.
