Lady Falcons Fall in First Round of GNAC Playoffs 4-0

 

Boston, MA - The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team saw their season come to an end losing 4-0 to host Emmanuel College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament action.  The first round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament was played at Clemente Field on Sunday afternoon. The 2nd-seeded Saints out-shot the 7th-seeded Falcons, 11-7, en route to the quarterfinal victory. Senior midfielder Kate McKenna(Holyoke, Mass.) paced the host Saints with 2 goals on the day. Emmanuel will now advance to host 6th-seeded Saint Joseph College in the GNAC semifinals on Wednesday night. The Saints scored their first goal early in the contest, when Amber Di Nucci(Assonet, MA) found Melanie Hoffman(Topsham, ME) to put Emmanuel on the board in the 16th minute off a McKenna header in a beautiful corner kick set up by classmate Meghan Long (Smithfield, R.I) in the 26th minute making the score 2-0 at the half.  Emmanuel's third goal of the afternoon came off a penalty kick. After being taken down by a Falcon defender in the box, McKenna put a penalty shot into the bottom left corner of the net.  A fourth and final goal by Amber Di Nucci came in the 61st minute resulting in the 4-0 final score.  Junior keeper Christina Oddo (East Haven, CT) made 5 saves for Albertus Magnus. Emmanuel's rookie keeper Jessica D'Ottavio (Pawling, N.Y.) made 7 saves for the host Saints.  The Lady Falcons end their season with a 9-6-3, 5-5-3 GNAC and made great strides this season in just the sixth year of the program's existence.
