Lady Falcons Win Third Straight With 7-0 Victory

NEW LONDON, CT - The Mitchell College women's soccer team was handed a 7-0 defeat by Albertus Magnus College on Monday afternoon.  Juniors forwards Sam Gigliotti (Wilton, CT) and Ashley Velazquez (New Haven, CT) each finished with two goals and an assist for the Falcons (5-1, 1-1-0 GNAC). Freshman forward Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, CT) also chipped in with a goal and three assists.  Albertus Magnus scored the only goal it would need in the fifth minute off the foot of junior mid-fielder Jenna Riccio (Northford, CT). Figueroa played a cross into the box from the right side that Riccio deposited into the right side of the net. The Falcons would add goals in the 17th minute by sophomore Krystal Quinones (Bridgeport, CT) and in the 19th minute by Gigliotti. Albertus Magnus finished off the half with another score from Gigliotti in the 43rd minute off an assist from Quinones to take a 4-0 lead into the break. Mitchell came out in the second stanza more assertive in the midfield. The Mariners fought for possession and kept the Falcons at bay until the 73rd minute, when Figueroa broke through the defense for an unassisted goal. Velazquez netted the final two goals for Albertus Magnus, the first coming in the 77th minute and the second with two seconds remaining in the contest.  Sophomore Brittany O'Neil made nine saves in goal for Mitchell (0-6 overall) in the first half. Junior Morgan Lindsay played the final 45 minutes and finished with three saves. Freshman Alicia Fernandez and junior Christina Oddo combined for the shutout in goal for the Falcons.  The Lady Falcons play host to GNAC opponent Mount Ida College on Wednesday with a 3:30pm kick-off.
