Updated Release (9/12/11) after statistic corrections:
Shannon Skidmore (Terryville, Conn.) registered a goal and two assists to lead the Albertus Magnus women's soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Pine Manor in Great Northeast Atlantic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
With the GNAC opening win, Albertus improves to 3-1 on the year and 1-0 in conference play. The Gators fall to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the GNAC with the loss.
Amanda Roke (Cheshire, Conn.) scored the Falcons' first goal of the afternoon as Shannon Skidmore assisted on the play. Meaghan Skidmore (Terryville, Conn.) tallied the Falcons' second goal as her third goal of the season was assisted by her twin sister, Shannon.
Pine Manor cut the lead to one in the 37th minute as Cristina Santos scored off of a free kick.
Sam Corso (Derby, Conn.) scored late in the first half to give the Falcons a two-goal advantage heading into the halftime break.
In the 65th minute, Shannon Skidmore tallied her first goal of the game and second of the season as she took a pass from Kelly Marchitto (West Haven, Conn.) and drilled it into the back of the net.
The Falcons' final goal came in the 85th minute as Brittany Ross (Ansonia, Conn.) scored to extend Albertus' lead to 5-1. For Ross, it was her first goal of the year, while junior Sam Farley (Shelton, Conn.) earned the assist, her first of the season as well.
Pine Manor goalkeeper Natasha Kopystynsky made 20 saves for the Gators as Albertus outshot the host team 36-3 on the afternoon. Christina Dineson (Milford, Conn.) allowed one goal and made two saves in her first game between the pipes in 2011 for the Falcons.
Albertus Magnus will play in its home opener on its new turf field on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 14) as the Falcons host Saint Joseph College (Conn.) at 4:00 p.m.
