Women's Soccer Back to Winning Ways with 2-1 Victory Over Emerson

Rebecca Slivinsky (Plainville, Conn.) scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 37th minute as the Albertus Magnus women's soccer team edged Emerson 2-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Today's victory snaps a two-game losing streak for the Falcons as they improve to 8-4 on the year and 6-3 in league play. Emerson falls to 5-6-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the GNAC.

Despite an early goal by junior Sam Farley (Shelton, Conn.) in the second minute of play, the Falcons secured the victory with the Slivinsky score, her third goal of the season.

Slivinsky connected on a cross into the box from Shelley Mirmina (Milford, Conn.) and beat the keeper at the near post to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead before the half.

Farley's goal was on a free kick as it was her first of the year.

The Lions cut the Falcons' lead to one in the 49th minute, as Carmen Trobaugh took a pass into the box from Meghan Foehl and drilled the ball just by a diving Christina Dineson (Milford, Conn.) in net.

Dineson made two saves on three shots on goal in 90 minutes of work as she improved to 6-2 on the year. Emerson's Alexandra Altman recorded six saves and allowed both Falcon goals.

On the afternoon, Albertus outshot the Lions 23-11, including a 17-7 clip in the second half.

The Falcons will head to Nashua, N.H. on Monday to take on Rivier in a GNAC match-up. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
