Roke, Dineson Lift Falcons to 2-1 Win at Emmanuel

Sophomore Amanda Roke (Cheshire, Conn.) scored two goals to lead the Albertus Magnus women's soccer team in a 2-1 victory over Emmanuel on Saturday afternoon in Boston, Mass.

Defense also helped the Falcons to victory as sophomore goalkeeper, Christina Dineson (Milford, Conn.) made a spectacular diving save with 10 seconds left to lift the Falcons in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference match. With the win, the Falcons improve to 10-4 on the year and 8-4 in GNAC play.

Albertus' 10th win of the season, marks a program-best, as the Falcons have reached that plateau twice before in program history. With eight GNAC wins in 2011, the Falcons set a new program-record for conference wins in a season.

The Falcons scored first in today's contest as Roke scored her fifth goal of the year off of a Sam Corso (Derby, Conn.) pass. Corso found Roke inside the 18-yard box before the sophomore drilled a shot into the right side of the net, giving Albertus a 1-0 lead before the half.

Roke extended Albertus' lead to two as a penalty kick was the eventual game winner. At the 55:40 mark of the contest, Roke took the PK for the Falcons and beat the Emmanuel keeper, Jessica D'Ottavio, for the score.

The Saints erased the shutout in the 62nd minute of play as Logan Carr registered an unassisted goal to make the score 2-1. Carr took a corner kick and sent it to the back post, where it got caught up in the wind and pushed out of Dineson's reach, cutting the Falcons' lead to one.

Emmanuel rushed its offense in the final five minutes of play, looking to tie the contest at two but fell short in its attempt. A Saints' shot with 10 seconds left by Donandrea Myette had a chance to tie the game but a diving save by Dineson secured the conference victory for the Falcons.

For Dineson, it was her seventh win of the season as she made seven stops in net. D'Ottavio recorded nine saves for the Saints as they move to 8-7-1 on the year and 4-6-1 in GNAC play.

The Falcons will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 18 as they host Anna Maria College in a GNAC match-up in New Haven, Conn. That contest is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
