Roke Lifts Falcons over NEC 1-0

Amanda Roke (Cheshire, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal in the 36th minute to lift the Albertus Magnus women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over New England College on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Falcons improve to 3-1 on the year.

The Falcons took the 1-0 lead in the first half as Shelley Mirmina (Milford, Conn.) sent a cross into the box where she found Roke who turned and drilled a shot into the back of the net.

For Mirmina, it was her first assist of the season, while Roke tallied her second goal in 2012 and her second game winner.

Albertus controlled the tempo of the contest as the Falcons' outshot the Pilgrims 26-7 on the afternoon, including a dominating 12-2 clip in the second half. Roke and Mirmina led the Falcons with six shots a piece.

Christina Dineson (Milford, Conn.) made three stops in net for the Falcons as she recorded her second shutout of the season.  New England's Tricia Sardagnola recorded 12 saves for the Pilgrims in 90 minutes of work.

The Falcons open conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 12 when they host Rivier College at Celentano Field. That Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match-up is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
