Falcons Shutout Saint Joseph's Maine 2-0

Freshman Acacia Nelson (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored her fourth goal of the season as the Albertus Magnus women's soccer team shutout Saint Joseph's College of Maine 2-0 in GNAC play on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.

Nelson's goal came in the 20th minute was unassisted as it was also registered on her lone shot of the afternoon. The goal also proved to be Nelson's first game winner of her career at Albertus.

Nelson led the Falcons with the first goal of the contest as Albertus went into the halftime break with a 2-0 lead. Shelley Mirmina (Milford, Conn.) tallied the Falcons' second goal of the day as she scored in the 38th minute to extend her team's lead. For Mirmina, it was her second-straight game with a goal, while she registered five of her nine shots on net.

Junior Amanda Roke (Cheshire, Conn.) picked up the assist on Mirmina's goal as Roke recorded her second assist of the season.

Albertus goalkeeper Christina Dineson (Milford, Conn.) did not face a shot in 90 minutes of play, while Saint Joseph's goal keeper Jaci Lorenzen tallied seven. The Falcons also outshot the Monks 17-4 in the contest and held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 8-2-2 on the year and 4-1-2 in GNAC play as they move up to third in the current league standings. The loss for Saint Joseph's was its fourth as the Monks fall to 4-4-1 overall and 1-4-1 in GNAC action.
