The Albertus Magnus women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Simmons College on Sunday morning in the quarterfinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament.

With the win, the Sharks improve to 11-7 on the year and will advance to the semifinals of the playoffs scheduled for Wednesday. The loss moves the Falcons to 11-6-2 on the year.

The Falcons outshot the Sharks 23-19 in the contest as Simmons held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Simmons took an early 1-0 lead as Sharks senior Justine Beauchamp buried a shot past Falcons' keeper Christina Dineson (Milford, Conn.) in the 23rd minute of play. Keri Acheson was credited with the assist.

The Falcons continued to put on the pressure as Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.), Kelly Marchitto (West Haven, Conn.) and Amanda Roke (Cheshire, Conn.) each registered shots but the Sharks were able to keep the Falcons off the scoreboard.

In the second half, Albertus took two quick shots with Figueroa and junior Shelley Mirmina (Milford, Conn.) leading the way but were unable to convert on the plays.

The Sharks took a 2-0 lead in the 65th minute as Alma-Lynn Dupont attacked the net to get Dineson out of the six-yard box before passing to Keri Acheson who finished on the through ball to extend the Sharks' advantage.

Sharks' goalkeeper Briana Hayes picked up her third shutout of the season with 15 saves, while Dineson recorded nine saves in the loss.
