Sophomore Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team has been named the month of October Female Student-Athlete of the Month.

Case was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Week twice throughout the month, on Oct. 14 and Oct. 28 and was tagged as the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 14.

The sophomore keeper tallied four shutouts during the Falcons' 7-1 month.  She allowed just three goals, two of which came in the final game of the regular-season at Emmanuel College.  She recorded 47 saves in 630 minutes of work in eight contests.

Case recorded a career-high 13 saves in a 1-0 win over Simmons College and then with a 6-0 shutout victory over Suffolk, on Oct. 14, she earned her seven shutout of the season to mark a program record in shutouts in a single-season.

As of Oct. 31, Case leads the GNAC in goals against average with a 0.72 showing, while she is also first in saves percentage with a .894 tally.  She is also ranked third in the conference in shutouts with eight on the season.

Led by her efforts in net, the Falcons will make their fifth-straight GNAC Tournament appearance on Saturday after finishing the regular season second in the league standings.  That second-place finish, is the highest finish in program history for the Falcons as this season also marks the fourth-straight year in which the Falcons have finished in the top-five of the GNAC standings.
