The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team cruised to a 5-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win over visiting Norwich University on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore midfielder Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) had a hat trick on the day leading the Falcon attack. Albertus out shot Norwich 16-2 and held a 3-1 edge on corner kicks in the game.
Polvan would start the scoring in the 10th minute of play on a volley finish after freshman defender Shannon Murphy's header attack was put on net from a corner kick. Freshman Angelina Piccilliro (Naugatuck, Conn.) sent a beautiful corner kick to set up the play.
Polvan would make it 2-0 when she finished a through ball from sophomore Alexis Mack (Meriden, Conn.) just two minutes later. The Falcons would take a 2-0 lead into halftime while holding a 6-0 shot advantage in the half.
Acacia Nelson (Bridgeport, Conn.) would scored an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute to give Albertus a 3-0 lead. Polvan would complete her hat trick scoring in the 64th minute as Nelson delivered a nice pass across the box.
Junior forward Kelly Kennedy (North Branford, Conn.) would finish the scoring for Albertus in the 80th minute making it 5-0.
Albertus improves to 3-3, 1-0 GNAC while Norwich drops to 2-3, 0-1 GNAC on the young season. The Falcons return to action on Wednesday when they host non-conference opponent Mitchell College at 4:00 pm on Celentano Field.
