Falcons Blank Anna Maria 5-0 in Women's Soccer

With her first goal of the season and the second of her career, Dakotah Sobiech (New Britain, Conn.) led the Albertus Magnus women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Anna Maria College on Friday afternoon in Paxton, Mass.  The victory improves the Falcons' overall record to 8-7-1 on the year and 5-3-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

Sobiech netted the eventual game winner on a header in the 29th minute of play.  Albertus' offensive attacked was spread out as five different players tallied the five goals scored in the contest.  Kelly Kennedy (North Branford, Conn.) put the Falcons ahead 2-0 in the 42nd minute with her third goal of the season as Albertus went into the halftime break with a 2-0 lead.  In the opening frame, the Falcons outshot the AMCats 13-1.

The Falcons scored three more unanswered goals en route to the 5-0 shutout victory.

Sophomore Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) tallied her team-leading sixth goal of the year to register her 32nd career point to move into seventh on the Falcons' all-time list.  Acacia Nelson (Bridgeport, Conn.) followed with her 24th career point on her fourth goal of the season in the 62nd minute to make the score 4-0.

Freshman Liziana Silva (Waterbury, Conn.) capped the Falcons' scoring efforts in the 80th minute as she got her foot on a loose ball in front of the net and drilled the ball past the keeper for her second score of the season.

The Falcons are 4-0 against Anna Maria since the AMCats joined the GNAC in 2011, while Albertus has outscored Anna Maria 25-0 during that span.

Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) made two saves in goal for the Falcons, while Karla Grajeda (Bridgeport, Conn.) tallied one stop in just over 16 minutes of play.  Ryan Clark (Milford, Conn.) also saw time in today's contest as she played 18 minutes in goal.

Anna Maria had two keepers split time in net as Teresa Ryan made four stops, while allowing two goals. Kate Kneeland tallied six saves as she allowed three goals.

Albertus will host Suffolk on Wednesday, Oct. 22 in New Haven for a GNAC match-up.  That contest is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at Celentano Field.
