Falcons Cruise to 3-0 Win Over Rivier

Under the lights for the first time ever in New Haven, Conn., the Albertus Magnus women's soccer team dominated play in a 3-0 win over Rivier University on Saturday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

Three different Falcons scored in tonight's contest as Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season and her 17th of her career. With her goal, she now has 38 career points which moves her into sixth place on the Falcons' all-time list as she surpassed Sam Sheppard's (2004-07) 37 points.

Senior Becky Slivinsky (Plainville, Conn.) began her senior night off well as she scored the first goal of the contest and the eventual game winner in the second minute of play as she finished on a loose ball in the box after a corner by Angelina Piccirillo (Naugatuck, Conn.).

Less than two minutes later, Kaitlyn Fedumenti (Stratford, Conn.) scored to give Albertus a 2-0 lead on a free kick from about 25 yards out.

The final goal of the contest came in the 60th minute when Polvan dribbled by a crowd of defenders and drilled a shot into the back of the net.

Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) split time in net with Ryan Clark (Milford, Conn.) and Karla Grajeda (Bridgeport, Conn.).  Case tallied two saves, while Clark made a career-high four saves in about 59 minutes of work.

Rivier's Lauren Goodspeed allowed all three goals but made eight saves.

Albertus outshot Rivier 19-11, including a 10-4 clip in the second half.

The Falcons will now await their postseason fate when the GNAC Tournament bracket is released on Sunday afternoon following the contest between Johnson & Wales (R.I.) and the University of Saint Joseph.
