Falcons Fall at Lasell 4-0 in Semifinals

The fourth-seeded Albertus Magnus College Falcons fell to top-seeded Lasell College 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon in the semifinal round of the 2014 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Soccer Tournament.

Bridget Lynch scored three goals as Lasell will now face the winner of tonight's match-up between second-seeded Emmanuel College and sixth-seeded Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University in the GNAC Championship on Saturday.

The Lasers opened up play aggressively, outshooting the Falcons 4-0 in the first ten minutes of play but failed to put any of those shots on target.

In the 35th minute of the contest, Lasell took a 1-0 lead as the Lynch sisters combined for the first goal of the game.  Bridget Lynch sent a pass to the top of the 18-yard box to her sister, Kayla, who drilled a shot into the bottom right corner of the net just past Albertus goalkeeper Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.).

Less than two minutes later, Bridget Lynch scored her league-leading 30th goal of the season when she received a pass from teammate Sarah Jones and broke away from the defense and capitalized on the play.

At the halftime break, the Lasers led 2-0 and held a 10-6 advantage in shots.

Bridget Lynch went on to score two more goals in the second half of play with one coming in the 61st minute and then another in the 77th to give Lasell a 4-0 lead.

Lynch, now with 32 goals on the year, led the Lasers with five shots, while Albertus' Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) tallied a game-high seven, including two on net.

Case finished the contest with four saves, while Lasell's Sarah Leclair tallied six stops in the shutout victory.

Today's contest marked just the second time the Falcons played in the GNAC Tournament semifinal round.  With the loss, the Falcons are now 2-7-1 all-time in GNAC postseason action.  It was also the first time the Falcons played the Lasers in the GNAC tournament.
