New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team played to scoreless draw with the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday evening in non-conference play from Celentano Field. Neither team was able to break through over the course of 120 minutes of action as the Falcons moved to 1-2-2 overall and the Leopards now have a 4-1-1 mark.

Both teams had their scoring chances throughout regulation and overtime, but the goalkeepers and back lines held their ground.

Less than two minutes into the first extra frame, Albertus had a golden opportunity as freshman forward Alexya Alves (Naugatuck, Conn.) played a perfect through ball to a cutting Acacia Nelson (Bridgeport, Conn.) in the box. With no defenders in front of her, Nelson fired a low shot that Leopard freshman goalkeeper Micaela Robinson bent down and caught.

Later in the first overtime, the Falcons were whistled for a foul 20 yards outside of their box. Wentworth junior and team-leading scorer Mary Annon took a shot that just missed the net high. Annon's blast in the 98th minute was the last true scoring opportunity for either team in the contest.

In the first half, the Leopards came inches from scoring as sophomore Ali Leach played a cross into the box that Annon chipped over Albertus senior goalkeeper Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) and off the post. The shot came in the 21st minute and bounced right back into Case's arm after clanking off the crossbar.

13 minutes later, Wentworth had another point-blank opportunity. After the winning the ball in the midfield, the Leopards played a through ball to junior forward Kristin Carroll who came in on a breakaway. Carroll ripped a shot that Case turned aside with a diving effort to keep the contest knotted at zero.

After being kept at bay most of the first half, the Albertus offense responded after halftime with three good scoring chances. The first was created by junior midfielder Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) who played a nice through ball to Alves. After beating the defender marking her, Alves took a shot that Robinson made a diving save on.

The second opportunity came off a free kick by sophomore midfielder Angelina Piccirillo (Naugatuck, Conn.) in the 71st minute. The bouncing ball landed on Nelson's foot whose shot zipped just wide and hit the side of the net. In the 83rd minute, Polvan made a nice move 12 yards outside of the box to beat a Leopard defender and fired a shot that Robinson made a leaping save on.

In goal, both Case and Robinson made four saves apiece.

Wentworth held a 24-10 advantage in shots and the Leopards took seven corners compared to two for the Falcons. The physical contest saw 25 fouls called and one card handed out to the visiting bench.

Albertus returns to action on Saturday, September 19 with a road conference clash versus Simmons.
