New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team ended a successful regular season with a 7-0 victory over visiting City College of New York on Wednesday evening in a rain-shortened contest under the lights at Celentano Field. With the non-conference triumph, the Falcons enter post-season play with a 9-8-2 overall mark, while the Beavers drop to 2-13-1 on the year with setback.

The shutout win was the sixth of the fall for Albertus Magnus and the third in the last four contests.

In net, Albertus Magnus senior goalkeeper Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) made one save during the opening half to earn her eighth win of the season. In relief of Case, freshman Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) turned aside a pair of shots during the shortened second half. On the opposite end, freshman netminder Marissa Olsen played well, stopping 13 shots in a losing effort for the Beavers.

All seven of the Falcons tallies came in the first half, as the hosts threatened early and often.

Junior midfielder Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) paced the offensive attack for Albertus Magnus with two goals, while senior Kelly Kennedy (North Branford, Conn.) scored a marker and added a pair of assists in her final collegiate home game. Sophomores Angelina Piccirillo (Naugatuck, Conn.), Bianca Stefanacci (Milford, Conn.) and Morgan Gigliotti (Wolcott, Conn.) all scored a goal apiece as did senior Renae Johnson (Bridgeport, Conn.).

Despite the heavy rain and windy conditions, the Falcons controlled possession and moved the ball with success against the CCNY defense.

Although she didn't find the back of the net, junior Kaitlyn Fedumenti  (Stratford, Conn.) hit the crossbar twice and saw another bid from just outside the box turned aside by Olsen.

The Falcons held an impressive 33-3 advantage in shots in the game and the seven-goal outburst was a season-high for the offense.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, October 21, traveling to the Bay State to square off with Emmanuel in the opening round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament. The tilt gets underway at 1:00 pm as the Falcons look to avenge a 1-0 loss on the road versus the Saints earlier this autumn.
