Mecca Tabbed Co-GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week after Shutout at Regis

WINTHROP, Mass. – After leading the Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team to a 1-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win over Regis (Mass.) College on Saturday, sophomore Michelle Mecca (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) earned Co-GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors, announced the league office Monday.

Mecca was outstanding in the Falcons' victory over Regis on Saturday afternoon, as she tallied 13 saves to earn her second shutout of the season. The sophomore keeper stopped five shots in the first half and eight shots in the all-important second half. Mecca made two critical saves in the final 11 minutes, stonewalling a penalty kick and making a diving save in quick succession. Both stops came just minutes before the Falcons scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute. Mecca has started every game for Albertus in 2021, leading the team to a 3-2 overall record.

The Falcons will next hit the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 22, when they welcome CCNY for a 6 p.m. home showdown under the lights at Celentano Field.
